St Patrick’s Day Celebrations ☘

15th Mar 2024
Saint Patrick was a fifth-century Romano-British Christian missionary and bishop in Ireland. Known as the "Apostle of Ireland", he is the primary patron saint of Ireland.

Facts about Saint Patrick

He was given the name Maewyn Succat at birth but changed it to Patrick when he became a priest. Patrick travelled around Ireland for 60 years telling people about Jesus. Throughout this time he consecrated over 350 bishops to help him do his work. He died on 17th March, AD 493.

A shamrock is a type of clover, used as a symbol of Ireland. Saint Patrick, is said to have used it as a metaphor for the Christian Holy Trinity. The name shamrock comes from Irish seamróg ([ˈʃamˠɾˠoːɡ]), which is the diminutive of the Irish word seamair and simply means "young clover".
