P7 last day & Confirmation

11th Jun 2021

Dear parent/guardian,
As you will be aware our P7 pupils will be making their confirmation on Thursday the 17th of
June at 12pm. We are very much looking forward to this day, but, given the current
restrictions, it will be different by comparison with past years Confirmation. In light of this, we’ve decided
to write this quick information sheet. Below are answers to some FAQs.
• Times? The confirmation will begin at 12pm but it is advised that you arrive early.
We would like to have everybody seated by 11:50 so are asking you to arrive early -
aim for 11:45.
• Who can come? Currently, only two people are allowed to accompany each child.
We appreciate this will be difficult for some families, but we must adhere to the Covid restrictions in place at St Peter's Cathedral. We are grateful for your support in this regard.
• What about sponsors? Sponsors will not be called to the front of the church to stand
with the children being confirmed. As such, sponsors do not have to be in attendance
on the day but are welcome to attend as part of the 2 adult rule. Teachers will stand as proxy sponsors during the rite itself.
• Who is confirming the children? Father Martin Graham will be the celebrant this
year.
• What do the children wear? They will make their confirmation in full school uniform
with a confirmation badge which has been made especially for the day and will be
provided by the school.
• How long will it last? We are expecting the service to last approximately one hour.
• What about school that day? Lessons will not be taking place that day in school for P7. It is
expected that the children making their Confirmation will meet their teachers at the cathedral at the times
stated above. The last day of school for all P7s is Wednesday 16th June.
• What if my child isn’t being confirmed? If your child is not being confirmed they do
not have to attend the Confirmation.
If your questions about the day are not answered above, please get in touch with your
child’s teacher via seesaw. They will happily answer any other queries you may have.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Fryers and Mr McGoldrick
