Numeracy in the real world - P1 style

12th Oct 2017

Our P1 children recently took part in a Numeracy morning in the Innovation Factory (IF) on the Springfield Road, taking maths learning beyond the classroom. The task set for the session was to identify 2D shapes (primarily examples of circles, squares, rectangles and triangles) around the building, giving our children hands-on real life experiences of shape.

A great morning of learning was had by all. The staff in the IF were blown away by the outstanding teaching and learning that was taking place and the happy faces of our children as they whizzed around the building in their small groups whilst completing their tick box activity.

A big thank you to St. Peter's Youth Club for the use of their minibus and to Shane, Shauna and all of the staff in the Innovation Factory for allowing us to use their state of the art building and helping us to facilitate fabulous learning experiences for our children.

Parents/guardians can help extend this learning by asking your child to identify examples of shape in and around your house. Happy shape hunting!
