Northern Ireland weather: Yellow warning for heavy snow and ice next week

12th Jan 2018

Snow is set to return to Northern Ireland next week with 'frequent and heavy' showers forecast.

The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice which comes into effect on Monday, January 15 at 6pm and runs until Tuesday, 16th at 11.55pm.  According to the forecast: "Frequent and heavy hail and snow showers are likely to affect many parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland from Monday evening, continuing for much of the day on Tuesday.

"Travel delays on roads are possible, with a small chance of cancellations to public transport. There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected. In addition some roads and pavements may become icy, increasing the chance of injuries from slips and falls."

It will also feel much colder on Monday and Tuesday with frequent wintry showers and strong south westerly winds, gales along North Coast.  Counties Antrim, Tyrone and Derry are those most likely to be affected by the snow and ice.
