19th Jun 2024

Keeping our eye on the building work in our City Centre. Our new Grand Central Station edging closer to completion. Proud to be partnered with Weavers Cross & Translink!

Information on the origins of the new Grand Central Station

The Grand Central Station Belfast refers to a historical railway station that once operated in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Here's a brief overview of its significance:

**History**: Grand Central Station in Belfast was a major railway station that opened in 1876 and served as a key hub for the Great Northern Railway (Ireland). It facilitated connections between Belfast and other parts of Ireland.

- **Closure**: The station ceased operations in 1976 as part of a broader restructuring of the railway network in Northern Ireland. After its closure, the site was redeveloped, and the original station building was demolished.

**Legacy**: Although the station no longer exists, its historical impact remains part of Belfast's rich transportation heritage. Some references to the station can be found in historical records and local history discussions.

The new Grand Central Station in Belfast is set to open in autumn 2024. This station will become the largest integrated transport hub in Ireland, significantly enhancing capacity and service for both rail and bus passengers. The development includes increasing the number of rail platforms and bus stands, as well as incorporating new public spaces.
