Kennedy Way roundabout: Timeline for major roadworks

29th Jun 2017

Heading to Asda over the weekend??

Preparatory work has begun on removing the Kennedy Centre roundabout in West Belfast to be replaced with traffic lights.

Here’s what’s going to happen, how long it will take and what people in the area can expect...

What’s happening?

A signalised junction will replace the Kennedy Way roundabout as part of the Rapid Transit Project.

How long will it take?

Preparatory work has already begun. The roundabout is to be completely closed from 7pm on Saturday, July 1, until 1pm the following day.

From Monday, July 3, until the end of August the temporary roundabout and the approaches to it will, where necessary, be restricted to a single lane of traffic in each direction.

Who will be affected?

Access to properties on the roads approaching the roundabout will be maintained and signage will be erected at appropriate advance locations advising of the closure and directing traffic on alternative routes.

General traffic is likely to be affected.

A department spokesman said: “Work and ongoing traffic management arrangements have been carefully programmed over the summer months in order to minimise any inconvenience to the public.

“However, motorists should be aware that some delays may be expected and that additional time should be allowed when planning any journeys.”
