👂 Listening skills

15th May 2024

This morning we had our last session with Ellen in the Sunshine Room . She has been helping us to develop our attention and listening skills . We made a speedometer to show how we are feeling practised our exercises to help us do good listening.

Well done everyone 😊👍🌟

Children need good listening skills for several reasons:

1. **Learning**: Listening is essential for learning new information, understanding instructions, and acquiring language skills. Children who listen well are better able to grasp concepts taught in school and at home.   2. **Communication**: Effective communication relies on listening attentively to others. Children who develop good listening skills can express themselves more clearly and understand others better, leading to stronger relationships with peers, teachers, and family members.   3. **Social Development**: Listening is a crucial aspect of social interaction. Children who actively listen to their peers learn empathy, cooperation, and conflict resolution skills, which are essential for building healthy relationships and navigating social situations.   4. **Academic Success**: Strong listening skills are linked to academic success. Children who can listen attentively in class are more likely to understand the material, participate actively, and perform better on tests and assignments.   5. **Safety**: Listening to instructions and warnings from adults helps keep children safe in various situations, such as crossing the road, following safety rules, or understanding emergency procedures.   Overall, good listening skills are fundamental for a child's cognitive, social, and emotional development, as well as for their success in school and beyond.
